Overview
Trezor Bridge acts as an intermediary that allows browser-based and desktop applications to detect and communicate with your Trezor hardware wallet. It handles USB permissions, device discovery, and secure message passing, while keeping private keys safely on the hardware device.
1 — Download the Bridge
Choose the installer for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux) from the official source. Only use the official Trezor download page.
2 — Install & allow permissions
Run the installer, accept system prompts, and grant the service permission to access USB devices. On macOS, you may need to approve the extension in Security & Privacy settings.
3 — Start the app and connect
With Bridge running in the background, open Trezor Suite (or a compatible web app). The app will detect your Trezor device and prompt you to unlock it and confirm operations directly on the device.
4 — Troubleshooting
If the device is not detected: restart Bridge, try a different USB port or cable, reinstall Bridge, or consult the diagnostics within Trezor Suite. Do not share your recovery seed with support.
Why Bridge is needed
Browsers restrict direct USB access for security. Bridge provides a controlled, signed interface so web and desktop apps can interact with hardware wallets without exposing private keys to the network or untrusted software. It is a minimal, audited component designed for reliability and privacy.
Security notes
- Bridge only transports messages; it does not hold or process private keys.
- Install Bridge from official channels and verify checksums when available.
- Keep Bridge up to date to benefit from security fixes and compatibility updates.
