What "Hardware Login" Means
A hardware login is the process of connecting your physical Trezor device to a desktop application or web wallet and authenticating access. Unlike software wallets, Trezor requires physical confirmation on the device for sensitive actions — this gives you strong protection against remote attacks.
Prerequisites
- Your Trezor device (Model One or Model T) with working USB cable.
- Trezor Suite installed on your computer (or a trusted, compatible web app with Trezor Bridge installed when required).
- Your recovery seed written on paper (for recovery only) and your PIN — never share them.
Step-by-step: Logging in with Trezor Suite
Plug the Trezor into your computer using the supplied USB cable. If this is your first connection, allow any OS prompts for device permissions.
Open the desktop application. Suite will automatically detect a connected Trezor and present options to create a new wallet, recover a wallet, or unlock an existing device.
When prompted, enter the PIN using your computer keyboard or, when requested, the on-device confirmation grid to protect against keyloggers. The PIN is required each time you unlock the device.
For any sensitive action (viewing addresses, sending funds, changing settings), you must confirm the exact details on the Trezor’s screen. Verify addresses and amounts match what you expect before approving.
For extra protection, enable a passphrase in Suite. A passphrase creates a hidden wallet derived from your seed; it must be entered each session to access those funds. Treat the passphrase like a second seed — if lost, access to the hidden wallet is lost.
Logging in via Browser or Web Apps
Some web wallets support Trezor devices — these typically require Trezor Bridge or direct browser support. The login flow is similar: connect the device, grant the browser permission, then confirm actions on the device. Only use reputable web apps and verify HTTPS and domain authenticity.
Security Best Practices
- Never enter your recovery seed into a computer or website; it’s only for offline recovery.
- Verify addresses on the device screen before approving transactions.
- Keep firmware and Trezor Suite up to date from official sources.
- Use a strong, unique PIN and consider an additional passphrase for large holdings.
Troubleshooting
- Device not recognized: Try a different USB cable or port, restart Trezor Suite, or reinstall Trezor Bridge if using the browser.
- Forgot PIN: The only recovery method is to reset the device and restore from your seed. Be sure you have your recovery seed before resetting.
- Suite shows an error: Check for firmware updates, consult diagnostics in Suite, and refer to official Trezor support articles.
When to Seek Help
If you suspect your device has been tampered with, stop and contact official support. Never share your seed or PIN with anyone claiming to help. Use support channels listed on the official Trezor website.
